I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this hotel. There was a complete water supply shutdown for the entire night and day, which made my stay highly inconvenient. To make matters worse, something alarming happened this morning: while I was sleeping, someone knocked on my door and, within seconds, tried to open it with a key to my room. Thankfully, I had placed the doorstopper, which prevented them from fully opening the door. Given these serious issues, I am requesting a full refund or compensation for my stay.

If you need to be in the area

Check in took a very long time even though there was only one other guest in front of me. The computer system was "down" and the staff didn't seem like this was the first time. While waiting after lugging your stuff around Manhattan there is no real seating area. Also, the elevator seemed to never ber operating - also not a surprise to the front desk. Considering I was in town for the NYC half marathon the thought of climbing 11 flights of stairs with luggage was a definite no. Also raised concerns about security. On the plus side - very nice location convenient to Central Park west.

worst hotel

I checked in late at the hotel, but I had called in advance. They said it was okay to check in late, but when I actually checked in, the front desk staff was very rude. The elevator was very slow, and the entire building was very outdated. Even the room key did not work, so much so that it had to be replaced 5 times. The room condition was the worst among the hotels I've visited. Even the scissors were pressed several times while I was sleeping, so I could hardly sleep. During check-out, there were many people, but there was only one small elevator, so I waited for about 30-40 minutes, and the hallway was narrow, so I often bumped into the room cleaning staff. The location was good because it was close to Central Park, but the streets around the hotel seemed very dangerous. The hotel condition was very bad for the price.

Bait and switch prices

Only one staff member to check-in 7 reservations upon arrival. After checking in my credit card was charged an additional $65.32 on a prepaid reservation. After waiting 15 minutes for the elevator I walked down the hall to my room to see a duster and vacuum cleaner sitting in the hall that remained for three days. Entering the room I noticed the bed sagging and checked it to find a pillow under the mattress to help support the worn mattress. Not one to complain I ended up sleeping on it and regretted that the next day. The TV defaulted to cable when turned off. I figured out it was on HDMI. Other items of note were the ripped window shades and bleached carpet stains. In the morning the housekeeper tried getting in at 8:30 and was shouting to colleagues down the hall. The experience only worsened when I checked out and questioned extra charge and was told it was a Facility fee. Having managed hotels for 30 years I asked what a Facility fee was and was told it was similar to a resort fee. I mentioned it was a prepaid reservation that included all taxes and fees. She just shrugged and said the booking channels don’t charge that.

There was a dead roach in the chest of drawers, dirty bottom of shower, unshackled cracks and holes in walls and the walls are very thin-you can hear everything.

While the front staff was friendly and helpful, the overall condition of the hotel was terrible. The hallway carpet looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years or even vacuumed. We had to move rooms the first night because our bathroom had not been cleaned and the floor in the room was filthy. The next room was also dirty and the sheets had stains. They brought us a vacuum and sheets and we vacuumed the floor and changed the sheets ourselves!

The conditions of the hotel were deplorable. It was extremely dirty, the shower and tubs were nasty, we weren't able to bath, areas within the room was broken, the sink was coming off of the wall, dirty hallways and carpet, heat didn't work in room 602, my children and I did not feel safe.

Amazing location. Away from the hustle and bustle of mid-town or Times Square where most tourists go. The upper west side is a great neighborhood with easy walkable access to many restaurants and bars as well as the Museum of Natural History and Central Park as well as two train lines. The only issues are that the room was super small but it was clean. There is only one elevator so there can be a wait if you are on the upper floors. The hotel goes to the 14th floor. Overall, a nice hotel in a super safe and nice neighborhood.
