DREADFUL HOTEL/ AVOID!

I checked out of the hotel after the 1st night of a 7 nights stay! I, and the Operations Manager have contacted, via email, Hotels.com Customer Services to arrange a refund that the Operations Manager has agreed to. DREADFUL hotel - certainly nothing like the desciption/photos - THIS IS NOT A FAULT OF HOTELS.COM! Dirty, unkempt and totally rundown AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!

The friendly staff and location to broadway is the only reason this place is still running. Our room didn’t have power in half the outlets, our air conditioning didn’t work and they had to place a unit into our window after two hours in 78 degrees, we didn’t have hot water. The hallways were stained with bleach, and access to only one elevator to the whole hotel. Lastly, when we first checked in we were sent to a room that had burn marks on the sheets that someone had clearly been smoking in and no one had cleaned. If I had to be in the city longer than 24 hours I would have booked a new hotel

Only one operating elevator with the capacity of 7. Our room was in the 9th floor…that’s a lot of stairs!!! Shower took over 20 mins to get hot water. Ice machine was not on floor. AC unit was making a load gunshot noise all through the night. No body wash. Had to pay additional al charge to hold bags.

I travelled solo and was looking for a place that was close to the major attractions and sites. After reading previous reviews, I was a bit nervous about staying here. The Pros: - the location is great, walkable to many sites and easy to access different subway lines - the housekeeping staff were very friendly - the bed was comfortable - the bathroom was clean - air conditioning worked fine The Cons: - as noted by others, there was only one functioning elevator and it was slow. I did not use it at all and chose to take the stairs. - the hotel is showing its age. The furnishings are showing wear and tear. Of more concern is the poor ventilation, causing the ceiling paint in the bathroom to peel. If not addressed, I worry that the condition of the hotel will fall into greater disrepair. - the bathroom is a tight squeeze. The door just barely clears the sink and the toilet. Overall, I felt safe and comfortable here and would consider again if I visit NYC in the future.

The hotel had a broken elevator which happens. That alone wouldn’t have been an issue, but did lead to extremely long waits trying to get up and down to your room, especially at check out time. The halls were lined with bags of laundry because staff was also struggling getting in them. The one elevator that worked fit 5 people max with luggage. Our room’s door had clearly been jimmied open, and didn’t shut all the way as a result. Could see people walk by through the crack in the side. The plate where the latch goes was so loose I could move it with my fingers. We propped an ironing board against it at night. The walls were stained with some sort of fluorescent spray (yes I had the same thoughts…). Water in the faucets was brown before it ran clear every time we turned it on. The fire alarm was ripped out of the ceiling. I typically travel for work a week or 2 a month. I read the reviews, I stay in NYC all the time. I have never had an experience as bad as this. Not have I ever had a manager look me in the eye, ensure me he was taking care of things and then proceed to not do a thing. The only thing I will add is that the staff was kind and apologetic and was clearly trying to do their best.

My recent stay at The Gallivant Hotel was nothing short of a nightmare. I checked in with high hopes, but those quickly dissolved when I discovered a horrifying situation in my bathroom. To my utter disgust, the shower was infested with pinworms and drain fly larvae. Yes, you read that right - actual worms and larvae crawling around where I was supposed to clean myself. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was one of the most revolting things I've ever seen in a hotel. It's clear that the hygiene and cleanliness standards at The Gallivant are severely lacking. This isn't just a minor oversight; it's a major health concern. Save yourself the discomfort and find somewhere else to stay.
