Stayed with my family and overall the experience did NOT meet expectations, despite the positive reviews. The beach is beautiful, and some staff are kind and hardworking. However, the lack of chairs or loungers at both the pool and the beach was extremely disappointing. There were NO spots to sit or relax at any time, which made it difficult to enjoy the resort, specially travelling with kids Buffet food is repetitive and average. The one à la carte restaurant we tried (Mexican) had very slow service, and the steakhouse had over an hour wait. Rooms are outdated. Our room balcony was facing the service entrance, which was EXTREMELY loud early in the morning. We changed rooms once due to noise issues. During the room change, we were told we could store valuables at the front desk, but this was later denied. The front desk supervisor was rude and dismissive, forcing us to carry passports, cash, and a laptop for hours. 11am till check out the new room at 3pm Drinks are low quality, and one bartender was rude when asked about brand options. I asked how does it work if I want Bacardi and he said I am not a magician I can’t read your mind. Overall, while some staff were great, the experience did not match expectations. And with absolutely no spots to relax on the beach our stay was very disappointing

The resort grounds and beach are beautiful, and the front-line staff (restaurant, housekeeping) are genuinely friendly and work hard. That’s the only reason this isn’t a 1-star review. On December 17 in Room 1105 the tap water turned brown with a strong sewage smell. Technician confirmed it, General Manager Angel dismissed it as “stagnant pipes” despite multiple use since check-in. Requested a simple move to RIU Palace, CAR or any, after they verified availability, was quoted an extra $180/night exploiting the situation. Declined the upcharge and was moved to Room 1301 as a “temporary” fix. That move never happened. Despite repeated calls to RIU’s main line, emails to complaints department, and long chats with Expedia, no one took responsibility. I spent the remaining four nights brushing teeth and washing my face with bottled water. Room 1301 issues: • Stained bed sheets • Broken/worn drawers and closet doors • Toilet only flushed if you held the button down • Bathroom sink drained very slowly • Water odor alternated between heavy chlorine and raw sewage Staff were polite but clearly afraid to act without endless manager approvals, even delivering a bottle of water took 20 minutes. I kept tipping because the problem is management, not the workers. Deeply disappointed. Serious hygiene and maintenance problems, zero accountability, and a ruined vacation. Will not return.

Need to upgrade rooms! Humid with bad odour rooms, came home and can’t wash out the bad smell from clothes, suitcase and even shoes, everything smells bad like mildew. Not enough hooks to hang towels, no toiletries, shampoo and soup cheapest quality. There is good minibar, enough water. Room service is great. Food is ok. Around the pool is anonymous amount of sand, some people even rinse their shoes in the pool. The steps to the beach are covered with thick layer of sand, nobody cleans them. Cocktails were good quality. Overall stuff is very nice and respectful. The beach is amazing, clean, powdery sand, can walk far in the water. Entertainment people were amazing. The RIU hotels need to be updated to stay in good reputation. There is a closet like convenience store with very high prices and low inventory. No not returning nor recommending.

We loved our stay at Riu Yucatán and had a great overall experience, especially considering the price. The food was very good, with a wide variety of options, so we didn’t even feel the need to book the à la carte restaurants. There were plenty of fish and meat dishes, salads, fruits, and different Mexican options. Breakfast was excellent as well, with everything from omelettes to sweets. The beach and sea are beautiful — white sand, clear water, and almost no seaweed during our stay. The beach itself is stunning. The staff were fantastic: always helpful, friendly, and everything around the resort was spotless. The animation and activities seemed good too, although we didn’t participate much ourselves. One of the highlights for us was the wildlife on the property. We saw coatis, birds, and iguanas, and we were told that monkeys can be spotted as well — a really nice touch, especially with kids. Downsides: The rooms are a bit outdated, but they are still very functional, clean, and comfortable. There are no umbrellas on the beach. There are palm trees, but with kids the shade isn’t always enough. At checkout, our key cards were blocked exactly at noon sharp we didn’t know and accidentally closed the room but we still had some belongings inside, which was inconvenient. Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay, great value for money, and we would definitely recommend!

Room very clean . Older ,rusty shower tub but other than that excellent.Room steward (Jorge) very friendly and helpful.Entertainment top notch. Restaurant and bar service always pleasent.Beach and pool area maintained clean at all time. Plenty sun loungers and umbrellas.Smoking areas could use a refresher.Overall friendly staff and nice propriety. Stayed here twice in the past years. Recommended .

The rooms were clean however the smell of mold was always there. Very dated rooms. Very comfortable beds though. Staff was great all over. Better entertsjnment than most all- includives ive been to. Resort was very clean everywhere you went. You never saw anything left on tables or dirty tables anywhere. You can't go wrong with staying at the Riu Yucatan. Lots of fun

Our stay may the Riu Yucatan was okay. The staff were all great. They are keeping a place going that needs updating. Shout out to Gustavo and the rest of the Entertainment and Activity staff. They work incredibly hard. Loved the pool games, White party, Silent Disco. Building 8 needs updating. Cleaning could be improved. Stains on pillows, floor washing. Our minibar water was only refilled when requested. A water supply repair was done quickly. Food had options, but main meals were never hot. Even the al a carte restaurants. Bartenders were good everywhere. The mobile cart serviced by Manuel at the pool was good. The beach was beautiful with lots of seating.
