The Handlery is a great option in Union Square for a quick weekend getaway. While it does not have the amenities of a five star, such as room service, there are plenty of options for food in the area. If you have kids, the heated outdoor pool is a huge plus. The place is definitely dated and can use some upgrades/renovations. The pool court balconies are great, however stay away from the room next to the hallway/elevator!

We really enjoyed our stay but check-in was a little chaotic. I wanted to pay cash for the room but the clerk behind the desk said that was super inconvenient. And that he’d have to charge me an extra $250 if I paid cash. Once I questioned him and said how ridiculous that sounded, he Explained that that was a deposit for the room for smoking. I told him he should’ve started with that and explain that much better than he did. Because we put it on a card that I shouldn’t have. I would’ve happily paid cash for the room and given him a card to hold the smoking fee, etc. But he did not make it sound like that was even an option. And that was really annoying. Also, did not explain how to get to the room so we rolled our bags over to the only elevator we saw, which ended up being the wrong elevator, and after looking everywhere for our room, had to go back downstairs and ask him where the correct elevator was. He did not explain that very well. He was young and not helpful at all. The rest of our day was great though!

Staff kept following my husband outside of the property asking him not to smoke when we were far away. Others were smoking right by the door and the staff said nothing to them but we were further away and they kept bothering us and watching us.

Staff was very nice. We were able to check in early which was good. Room very clean as well. My only complaint is the location of our room. We were in premiere tower which was so far from the lobby. It had two small flights of steps and no elevator which made it difficult with luggage checking in and out. Good location in regards to train/bus/cable car lines

The property is very confusing. Trying to find anything from the swimming pool is almost impossible. If it wasn’t for the Awesome staff that works here I would’ve given this the stars but they have the best staff that I’ve dealt with at a hotel. Very nice and friendly and understanding. The rooms are just OK. The swimming pool and the sauna is nice.
