For my first visit to Taiwan, I really wanted to stay in a hotel with regional cultural character. It turned out the Grand Hotel is the only place that fits the bill, and what a magical palace it is! I loved the ambience of the interior design in both the common spaces and my room, which had a beautiful view of the green mountains behind the hotel. The breakfast buffet is amazing. There is also a really cute cafe in the rear wing that you should not miss.

It is a wonderful property and a destination like hotel because you will d to use a car service to travel to anything outside the hotel: food, shops, extensive site seeing although there is some accessible walking trails with beautiful views. The hotel has some boutique shops inside and restaurants as well. This is a historical hotel kept up well. My room just had some water issues that looked like they had attempted to attend to before but the fix didn’t hold. The culture and expectation is that guests are quiet but if guests are not you can hear some noise. Spacious rooms even the basic room. Buffet has a large selection each day.

Great hotel tourist attraction in its own right. Balcony allowed you to watch sunset. However breakfast was very expensive and awful Lots of food but none any good. Also, rooms are old and doors to balcony do not seal properly so you hear all thr traffic and planes ftom the nearby airport and metro trsins...so peaceful it isnt.
