The homestead is a stunning old house with modern conveniences. It’s clean, full of character & warm. The real bonus was something we didn’t notice while we were there - how peaceful it was. Nice & secluded & just relaxing. A big thanks to the Lodge manager Suzy.

Hi Mark, It was a pleasure to have you stay at the Mararoa Homestead on the grounds of the Te Anau Lodge. We hope to welcome you back here in the future. Kind regards, Suzy

Stayed in the train carriage which was quaint, bit of yester year style..... Unfortunately the property lacked the polish expected, shower nozel tied on with string, very uncomfortable bed, hot water took ages to come through, very cramped with oddities too much as there was nowhere functional to place ourbags. Staff were wonderful and there was really nice inclusions of plenty of toiletries and breakfast items - that was much btter thanexpected. Really dissapointed that the laundry facilities that were advertised were non existent.

Unique place to stay, beautiful grounds, the host was less than friendly and didn’t bother to show us any of the bnb amenities.

Hello anonymous. As it anonymous, i have no idea when you came or who checked you in. Unless the guests refuse it, we always spend at least 10 minutes talking about the history of the building, showing the breakfast room and library and going through the large collection of things that there are to do here, so i find it very hard to fathom exactly what happened. All of my colleagues who do check ins are instructed to give the same information although i try hard to be at the desk every afternoon myself to do the check ins. Clearly anyone arriving late gets the bare minimum only so as not to wake up or disturb other guests.

Unique property, but poor value for money

Pros: Lovely garden, quiet position, interesting history. Friendly charming manager.
Cons: The sheets, blankets, mattress all need changing, they are old, scratchy , worn and threadbare.
Location: Te Anau is the gateway to Fjordland. Lots of places to eat, beautiful lakeside walks.
We had the outside room which is not part of the original building. It features a kitchen with cupboards yet no microwave nor a fridge. There are no shelves in the room and only a few hooks for hanging clothes. This might work for an overnight stay but we were there for four nights and had to live out of our suitcases, it was not comfortable. Tiny unheated very poorly ventilated shower room. Poor quality bedlinen, particularly scratchy, worn blanket. The Room was disappointing and poor value. Felt as if we were in a garden shed.

Awesome old restored lodge, relaxing atmosphere.

Pros: Everything
Location: Set in beautiful Te Anau, close to Milford sound. Also great place for boating, tramping, hunting, great restaurants, mini golf.....
Really loved everything about it. Clean, comfortable, full of history. Great breakfast. Lovely host made us feel very welcome. Great views of the lake, and the grounds are park-like.

Pros: George! Taxied us to the centre of town as the bus service would not pick us up. He made up for the distant location.
Cons: Nothing, all good!
Location: Tranquil
Facilities: Home away from home; Value: Affordable; Service: Remarkable; Cleanliness: Spotless; You could get married here! The grounds are wonderful with lots of curiosities to see. Breakfast and afternoon tea is provided. Check out the library!
