Vallejo, California, sits 50 km north of San Francisco and just 25 km south of Napa, making it a great home base for all kinds of Bay Area exploration. Plus, it’s a fantastic jumping-off point to enjoy a boat ride in the beautiful bay and tons of history and nature. This city has twice served as the capital of California, albeit briefly, in 1852 and 1853, but its greater claim to fame is as the site of the first U.S. Navy base on the West Coast.
