What is most unique about this property that I was unaware of before staying was that 100 years before it was established as a state mental asylum until it shut down in 1974. That gave me and my husband a bit of the heebie jeebies when we got there to be honest. We also noticed a weird hospital sort of antiseptic/cotton gauze bandage smell that seemed to permeate the halls no matter where we walked. The architecture inside was absolutely beautiful and outside it was huge, sprawling and awe-inspiring. Parts of the property buildings are run down and not usable at the moment. So it is decidedly the most unique property I have ever stayed at. It was within walking distance to a concert that the 2 of us went to see, so it was very convenient from that standpoint. Also, the service staff were all very attentive and cordial, and the onsite restaurant had delicious food with fast service. The beds were comfortable and again, it was just a very unique experience we didn't expect before we walked in there. I probably should have done a little reading on the history of the property before booking. Just be aware if that's anything that concerns anyone planning to stay there.
