We had never stayed in Edinburgh before this trip. We found our B&B to be a pretty nice location. It was an easy walk to the main attractions. For the price, you can’t beat it. City transport is easy to use. The bus stops right on the street in front of the hotel. The staff were friendly. The room was clean. It was nice to have a tub/shower combo. The only negative would be how loud the other guests were at night. The walls and door aren’t very insulated. Check in and out was easy. We would stay here again.

We stayed for one night - and the hotel served its purpose. Clean and safe hotel. For the price it was great. Pillows were very flat, but beds were otherwise comfortable. We were on the second floor and in May with the sun shining in it was very warm- the windows were only able to be cracked open a little bit. I understand there are safety requirements, but keep this in mind when considering the time of year. Thank you!

Beautiful hotel to stay at while in Edinburgh

We had such a wonderful stay at the Cumberland Hotel. We stayed in a room on the first floor in the back near the garden, which also had quick access to the bar (that was convenient). It is a older hotel and we could hear people talking and walking above us early in the morning but we were fine with the accommodations. Be aware that there isn't early check-in but the staff does have luggage storage available. The staff was very nice, friendly, and helpful. The hotel is close to a tram station and many bus stops; but it was very quiet on the grounds. Hotel is very convenient to many stores, restaurants, and stores. Would highly recommend staying.

The stay was fine. Very basic room wise. Comfortable bed and the shower/bathroom good. Not a room for comfort, practical, clean. Very noisy from guests above us due to wooden flooring. Don’t think the accommodation warrants the £120 plus price tag. Good location for easy city centre access.

TDLR: avoid do not stay Was staying here for a friend’s wedding and needed to book a place fast. Expedia showed me this with what I thought was a reasonable price for 3 nights (it wasn’t) 700$ Canadian for it. When I first came to the hotel the staff member was really friendly and after 16hrs in transit it was nice. However it was late when I got in so I wanted to shower and try to get some sleep. I went to turn the shower on and the handle is broken sprays water from the side (honestly no problem just brought it up to their attention), but the rainwater tap works fine and the temps were nice. However, there is black mold growing on the side of the glass door. I went to lay down on the bed and it’s broken. One side’s springs are broken so I’m laying on a slant. I asked if I could get a new room after the first night the lady said “talk to my manger at 2 when he comes in sorry I can’t help”. Okay thank you for being honest about it. I talked to the manager and he told me “sorry we are booked fully and the best I can do is just flip the mattress over.” How is that going to fix the problem? For all three nights from the doorbell ringing at 6am to people yelling in the lobby at 1am and finally with the most uncomfortable “double” bed, I haven’t received a decent nights rest. I also checked the blanket for the last night I was there and it is disgusting. There was also a lovely spider’s exoskeleton just hanging on the wall. This place was awful for me would never recommend it!

For the love of G*d, DON'T stay here

I booked this hotel for a treat for my partner and I. He had never been to Scotland before, so when I seen this beautiful looking property, I had to book. On arrival, the problems started immediately. There were signs in the car park, saying to pay for parking inside. At the reception, I was told it was £15 PER DAY for parking. There would also be no meals, other than breakfast being served... Breakfast would be an extra £13 EACH. I was also asked for my card details for their records, when I had already fully paid for the stay. We stayed in room 47,which seemed adequate at first. Then I noticed there were dirty marks all over the wall. The bathroom was clean enough, but there was limescale all over the bath faucet. The bed was so uncomfortable, I barely slept, and I got up in agony. Other guests in the hotel were loud, and you could hear everything through the door. At one point, my partner had to get up and further secure the door with a heavy chair, because we thought someone would come in (after reading other reviews of the property, it has been known that staff just enter bedrooms as and when they want to). It got to a point where I was genuinely scared, and I told my partner that I wanted to go home (about 2am). My partner reassured me to try to sleep (because of the upcoming long drive), but at 7am, we packed up quickly and left as fast as we could.

The staff were lovely, but the stay was not worth the money. There were many woodlice in my room, the bed was uncomfortable, with a tough pillow and thin duvet, and the bed cover was old and stained. I paid £90 with parking but without breakfast. Would not stay again for that price. Location was suitable.
