If euros are burning a hole in your pocket, head to Daedalou Street for an eclectic mix of designer gear, Cretan olive oil, local wine, raki and assorted curios. The popular Saturday market by the port is also worth a slot in your schedule. This kilometre-long snake of a market sells fruit, vegetables, herbs and other goodies.

After shopping, head back to the town centre and pick a spot in one of the many courtyard tavernas that pepper this area.
