ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY AT HUNTER RIVER RETREAT.

If your looking to leave the city behind and unwind on the deck of your own private rustic cottage with stunning views, to sit back and sip a glass of fine Hunter Valley wine and do nothing but soak up the peace and serenity. Then a visit to Hunter River Retreat is a must!

Perhaps a picnic on the mountain with a loved one, bush walking on our many trails, spotting local wildlife including our kangaroos and wallabies or feeding our farm animals interest you, then picturesque Hunter River Retreat is for you.

Hunter River Retreat is situated on 110 acres and approx. 2 hrs from Sydney, 15 minutes from Maitland, with boutique wineries close by and the main Hunter Valley wineries approx. 30 minutes away. Full Day Bus Winery Tours can also be organized that pick up from The Retreat - you can taste and not worry about driving.

Cedar Cottage is a private fully self-contained cottage with Jacuzzi spa on the deck. It has two bedrooms, with a queen in one bedroom and 2 singles and a set of bunk beds (2 singles) in the second bedroom and fantastic views of the valley and Hunter River.

A simply gorgeous spot with a beautiful view. The spa bath on the deck is a fantastic way to unwind. Cute, rustic cabin surrounded by both domestic animals and wildlife which is nice. Lots of nice little touches in the cabin to make it feel homely. Eloise is an excellent host who is easy to communicate with and replies to messages promptly.

Scenic getaway

The pictures on the website hardly do justice to the real experience. The location is fabulous, so scenic and secluded at the same time. The hosts are friendly and there are adequate instructors in and around the property. The cabin is rustic, but beautiful, just what you’d want for a stay of this nature. The spa is great and amazing for relaxing after a winery tour. The only problem was that our stay got over too soon !! Highly recommend this place

Perfect girls weekend

This was a perfect spot for a girls' getaway weekend (though we left trying to figure out if we could come back with the kids sometime too as they also would have loved it). We loved the casual animals around the property and the jacuzzi on the deck. Overall a great place to just settle in with some wine and cheese. The long steep driveway up from the street was damaged when we came so a little scary in my small car but all good in the end and they were fixing it as we left anyway.

Just the perfect getaway!

An easy 2 hour drive from Sydney and you find yourself on this amazing property. A lovely cottage (Cedar) nestled in a beautiful setting and to-die-for views. Friendly animals close by that you can feed if inclined. I found out you just can't have enough carrots!! In and out of the jacuzzi all day and life was pretty good. The view is outstanding

The view is absolutely amazing. That, plus the animals that you can see and touch at your doorstep. If you like cooking, bring your own frying pan though, the one at the cabin was about 100 years old. The jacuzzi is great. There’s only a small couch so not everyone can lounge at the same time but we were out most of the time so it wasn’t a problem. Did I mention the view? AMAZING

Lovely farm stay!

Our stay definitely exceeded expectations. We were in the most beautiful location and incredibly peaceful. We loved all the animals on the retreat including the alpacas and the wildlife. The lookout points and balcony views were unreal. Nothing like the morning sunrise practicing yoga up there being surrounded by bird songs. The cabin was also very cosy and comfortable. The beds were perfect too and we all got the best sleep! Can’t wait to come back again.

Perfect getaway

I stayed at Hunter river retreat with my partner and two dogs. The stay was a perfect weekend get away from Sydney. The property was beautiful to explore with animals freely walking around and coming home in the afternoon to relax by the fire. Eloise was quick to respond to any questions I had throughout the booking process.
