The staff was friendly, our room was clean, and the hotel is conveniently located near Times Square, plenty of restaurants, and subway stops. While well-kept, the hotel does need upgrades particularly the elevators and staircases. Also, some of the decor is dated. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

The staff was very friendly and incredibly helpful. The hotel is a bit dated, but other than that everything was great. Would recommend to anyone who wants a historic feel close to Times Square.

We had a great time in NY, and it’s because the St. James is literally 1/2 block from Times Square. There are so many restaurants and shopping experiences close by, the Broadway shows are within walking distance, as is Rockefeller Center. The hotel was clean, and the staff was great! Thanks for a great stay!

The bed that we had was a total.disgrace and was fit for the tip! The loud squeaks out of it an that was just sitting on it and the noise intensified when you turned over also the springs pinged all the time as well when in bed! Also the staff we met never spoke, not even a good morning or goodnight.....not saying they were all like that, as I did see a chatty one on when we were leaving.

Staff was generally helpful & always present... so we felt safe. There was overnight construction on the street front that was noisy every night. Earplugs supplied by staff helped. On Wednesday morning the hot water would not turn on... it did not turn on until Thursday night! We could not shower for 36 hours! Each staff person had a different excuse or half-truth. The lack of hot water really sucked and not being able to shower, we did not get what we paid for. A partial refund would be the noble thing to offer.

Lovely old hotel in the heart of the theatre district. Walking distance to all of the Broadway venues. Good food all around. The city was jackhammering the streets up over night the week we stayed but the hotel graciously moved us to a rear room with no issues. Nice and quiet.

We have been staying at the St James on and off for over ten years. This will be our last time. Though the websote claims that the hotel.has been through renovations, the facility is as run down as ever. Our room had a radiator that clanked all through the night even tho we never used it. We asked numerous times for it to be fixed and finally got service that didnt helo at all. We were able to change rooms once we requested to. That was the only good thing about our stay. If we had not been able to, we were prepared to move to another hotel.

Location was key but unfortunately our shower only had hot water and it was scalding. Called for service on night one to be fixed by day 2 while we explored the city, and it never got done. Front desk “sighed” when I called, so wasn’t expecting much. We took turns with hurried showers before the temp hit max. Also there was road drilling on the street that only happened at night. They gave us ear plugs. Good times!

The property itself was somewhat rundown. That didn’t matter to us though, as the room was clean and the location was top notch! There was construction on the street right in front of the hotel. Started at 11:30pm and went all night with jack-hammering. That’s not the hotel’s fault, but it did cause a lack of sleep.

My family of 4 stayed at the St. James hotel in a double room for a week. I'm going list the pros and cons. Pros-This hotel is very close to Times Square and Rockefeller Center. We never felt unsafe no matter the day or night coming into the hotel. There is a convenience store right next door and as well as other food options near by. The hotel was clean and the hotel staff was always friendly. Cons-This hotel is historic. With that said, the rooms are tiny and do not have a refrigerator. There also isn't an ice machine available. There are two elevators, but one is tiny and could barely fit our family of four. Due to the age of the building, the windows did very little to block out the outside sounds, so you could hear the sirens and car horns all night long. Be aware of this if you are a light sleeper. I had to buy ear plugs to sleep in. Our bathroom was tiny, with no bathroom counter. None of these things were enough to deter us from staying at the St. James again. I would, however, book two rooms for our family of four instead of one.

It is an old hotel but the location is perfect. The only issue is that they were doing construction work on the street all night and the windows are super thin so don’t expect to get a quiet night
