Did not get to stay, it seemed that Orbitz sent the reservation cancelation to my email less then 24hours of my arrival so after I got there I was informed that the hotel had been taken over by the city, but they did give me 2 hotel options to stay at and they took care of everything this is the second time this has happened, the last time it was a Hotel in Tampa

The Washington Jefferson Hoyel was closed for renovations when we arrived and we could not stay there. We were directed to go to the Hotel Edison instead.

We didn’t stay at this hotel. Flew into the city late at night only to be told “the government is taking over the hotel we have transferred you to a new hotel you can’t stay here” 45 MINUTES AWAY from the current area no email notification before hand or a call during the daytime hours. While seeing other hotel guest enter and exit the building who were clearly staying in the hotel. Hotel staff did not even know how far the “new” hotel was I had to look it up myself. We were offered up to a $50 cab ride to the new hotel and 2 breakfast vouchers… what a laughable compensation. Hotel staff were not knowledgeable and not helpful. We got a refund and found a better hotel. I wouldn’t waste your time at this place. Stay somewhere else! Also, this hotel staff lied to our travel agency saying we took the transfer hotel when we did not. So for a lack of a better term “scammed” us as we wouldn’t been changed for this stay when we did not stay at this hotel. Therefore, had to fight for our refund from this unworthy hotel. Don’t waste your time and money on this place.

Reservation moved to another hotel

Upon arrival I was told I was being moved to a different (sister) hotel because the city had taken this hotel over. I don't like not having a choice of where I stay. AND, this put me behind on my schedule causing me to miss out on an event I had planned and paid for. A notification BEFORE arriving would have been better. Waste of my time.

Unfortunately, they had to move us to their sister hotel, The Edison, because the City of New York took over the hotel. The staff made the shift as painless as possible - but we would have preferred to stay at the WJ.

The Triumph Hotel chain contracted with the city of NY to let them use the WJ Hotel and didn’t inform any guests until we attempted to check-in. They claimed the city “took over” the hotel in a sad attempt to deflect blame. They tried moving me to a hotel up on 77th St when I chose the WJ for its location. Apologies and $10 for cab fare do NOT make up for a lack of communication and horrible inconveniences for the remainder of my visit to the city. Being in a sudden position of having no option I had to agree to a hotel on 44th but three avenues over in the middle of Times Square and the tourist crowds. Any hotel with a genuine concern about service would have owned their decision, contacted reservation holders prior to check-in, and offered the opportunity to cancel, enabling those who chose to find other accommodations. The front desk staff was forced to deal with a lot of disgruntled and angry guests while the people who made this decision sat back and had an obvious lack of empathy while perpetrating this fraud. I suggest avoiding any Triumph Hotel going forward since guest services are placed well below corporate profit.

The hotel is close to broadway, times square and central park. It was surrounded by a ton of places to get different foods as well. Our room was a little small, but we were barely there and it didn't bother us. We had a hair dryer, but the room did not come with a microwave or refrigerator. The front staff was incredibly nice ESPECIALLY the woman who checks us in originally. We would stay here again in the future.

Terrible..don’t stay there.

Thank goodness my stay was short. It’s old horrible yucky hotel with old furniture that they found in a garage sale. No safe to keep valuables and location is not the best. Tiny bathroom and the tiniest sink you ever saw. Carpet was dirty and wet in some parts. Elevator had a hard wood door to enter and exit any you know it’s bad when they lock the front doors of the hotel at midnight
