Staff is very friendly with the exception of one lady who was trying to sell us the package of buying a condo. Told her I wasn’t interested but since I was with my whole family I told her she could directly speak to them instead of trying to speak to me at the same time since I did t want her to waste her time on me. She took it offensively and said I was a “grosera”. The overall place is what you would expect an all inclusive to be. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food this is not the place to eat at. It is close to 5th Ave where there are other popular places to eat and it’s easily walkable. The beach was filled with Sargassum which kinda of ruined our beach area and the smell was horrible but that’s uncontrollable. Alcoholic Drinks were just all very sweet. Safest thing to get is beer. Don’t think I would be coming back.

Don’t eat here

Very disappointing hotel. They could make it so much nicer for very little effort but a rundown seven hole pup, putt golf course and rough food selection and staff that either can’t get their stories straight or is outright lying to gas. It was very disappointing.

I appreciated the warm welcome, and some of the staff were very attentive. The place is clean and well-located, close to restaurants, shopping, supermarkets, and parks. However, I was a little disappointed with the beach. It wasn’t the best and was somewhat dirty. I also didn’t like how some people at the hotel tried to push promotions or convince me to buy things, it felt too aggressive, and I don’t enjoy that while on vacation. The beach towel policy was also frustrating. There were too many rules, and losing one comes with a $30 charge, which seems extremely expensive for a towel. I wish there was a bit more trust toward guests. We come to relax, not to steal. Aside from that, many of the people were friendly, and the hotel itself is beautiful.

During my stay, I encountered several serious issues that significantly impacted my experience and well-being. Most notably, the beach adjacent to the property was in extremely poor condition. It was unsafe and unusable due to a significant accumulation of sargazo (seaweed), which was left uncollected and rotting, emitting a strong odor and creating an unsanitary environment. Despite this being a known issue in the region, the hotel made no visible effort to clean or maintain the beach area for guests. More concerningly, the lack of cleanliness extended beyond the beach. General hygiene standards throughout the property were subpar, and I ultimately developed a severe dermatological condition during my stay — a direct consequence, I believe, of the hotel’s failure to maintain proper sanitary conditions. This has required medical attention and caused considerable distress. This experience was unacceptable, especially given the standards and expectations communicated by the hotel in its marketing materials. I trusted The Hotel to provide a safe, clean, and professionally managed environment, and that trust was completely violated.

Super cute property with a great vibe. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I loved that there was a few beach clubs next door and it is walkable to downtown Playa. Downside food was not great and I agree with the other reviews about the beds. The beds were very firm, not the worst but not the best. Aside from that I would return.

Only stayed for a night because the nightly rate was cheaper than 2 day use passes. Property is not very large. Rooms are out dated. Food is what you'd expect from about a 2+ - 3 star resort. Definitely could not do 5+ days here. Did enjoy that the resort is a short walk to 5th Ave.

Most of the staff was excellent, they definitely respond to friendly customers......as they should! At check in we were told we would not have a king sized bed because this was a family friendly resort, however when booking reservations for dinner we were told that no more than 4 could be seated together. The restaurant staf was excellent and had no problem seating all 6 of us together. The safe in our room was locked when we arrived and, after 3-4 times telling the front desk, we simply gave up. If it wasn't for the front desk and concierge service we would have given the staff a 5-star rating, that is really unfortunate. The activities were fun and you got out of them what you put in. Water aerobics, music trivia, bocce ball on the beach, disco at the sports bar and karaoke was all a really good time. It's a smaller resort and the beach is roped off, if you're looking for the Cancun type water, this wasn't it. Food was okay at the buffet, the Mexican and Italian restaurants and snack bar were delicious! I felt like this all-inclusive had more 'not included' items than most, but we had everything that we needed. Not a lot of extra activities for kids, yet I wasn't traveling with kids so I may have missed some things. This resort is what you pay for, however if you have to travel on a budget, it is clean and you'll have everything that you need. About 45 minutes from the airport

Rooms are disgusting, shower floods the entire room. Food is absolutely unacceptable. Then they locked us out of the room after three days saying they undercharged us at check in . I paid in full on Expedia a month before our trip. The entire resort smells like diarrhea as well. This place needs to be bulldozed and sell the property. By the way I’m extremely easy going person and willing to look past certain things. this place is horrible

Nice property and close to 5th Avenue and located on the beach. Food was very basic and a bit more variety would be nice. Beautiful pool but sun beds were taken quite early due to people reserving with towels . This was unfair as sometimes they were left for hours whilst not being used. Management need to look into this. Staff were amazing and always on hand if you needed anything. Entertainment a bit hit and miss. If you’re after a very quiet resort then this is the one for you, otherwise look for something bigger with more going on.

The hotel is not in the center of Playa del Carmen, it's a bit out, so surroundings are not so nice as Playa del Carmen center. We booked a week stay in the Coco Reef, but stayed only one night. The reasons for staying only one night are multiple. First we asked for connecting rooms several times, first a couple of months ago when we made the booking, then couple days before our arrival and the last at check-in and they said they cannot provide connecting rooms. Second reason was that we are a family of 4, with one 18 year old daughter and one 8 years old daughter. Which were staying alone in a room next to ours (not connecting). Soon after getting to our rooms, some guy from staff members came to our daughters room and was asking if they are alone, they felt uncomfortable and closed the door on him. After that I went to reception to ask what is this about, they weren't clear why someone would be going yo their room to ask if they were alone. They were making an excuse that he was checking if there is sodas or they want sodas in the room, but nobody came to our room to ask this. Third reason was the lack of cleanliness of the rooms, where it was clearly visible the floors were not cleaned properly as there were hair on the floor and in general the floors were not cleaned. Fourth reason was the smell in the rooms, it was very damp which we couldn't get rid off with opening the balcony doors and AC. So after one night we left the hotel and went elsewhere.

Resort is ok. Very clean everywhere. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Nice pool and beach area. Food not great but plentiful and I always found something I could eat at the buffet. Bed not very comfortable was probably the worst thing for me as I did not sleep well. I would return but not real high on my list.

The Reef Coco Beach, Playa del Carmen The Reef Coco Beach benefits from a great location near Playa del Carmen’s vibrant Fifth Avenue, offering easy access to local shops, authentic cuisine, and nightlife. However, the resort experience itself is lacking. Food options are minimal and often cold or stale unless you arrive early, leading many guests to dine off-resort where local options are far superior. Staff service is hit-or-miss, with some unhelpful or rude encounters, and persistent vacation club sales pitches further diminish the experience. Rooms are basic but clean. However, a major issue is the extreme noise level. The resort allows loud partying in the reception area late into the night, and rooms located above or nearby are heavily affected. Guests often report being unable to sleep due to the noise. The beach is another disappointment—unclean, with murky water and unsuitable conditions for swimming or snorkeling. For clear waters, a day trip to Cozumel or Isla Mujeres is necessary. The Reef Coco Beach might suit budget travelers focused on exploring the city, but those seeking restful nights, quality food, and a clean beachfront should look elsewhere.

My husband and I went for a week the end of May 2025.The property is beautiful and very clean. The food was very good, especially the Italian restaurant. The beach was nice, the pool wonderful. It is quiet, not a lot of activity, which we like. No real complaints.

The week days were quieter with more locals. Beds were rock hard and the hotel hallways are very very noisy at all hours. We were right by the elevator and could hear every peep. The pool turned my swimsuit and my hair green, if you bleach your hair don’t get it wet. The food was great, my fav was the Japanese restaurant. Not a big resort but safe and comfortable.

The Reef at Cocoa Beach where do I start checked in second day? I was all stopped up and noticed that it was mold growing around the heat vents informed the desk they said they would clean it. They never did third day. I had a short in my room in the fan that caused sparks to arc out across the room informed the front desk no one came for 45 minutes so I packed my bags And went to the front desk and asked for a new room the staff was friendly. The hotel was clean. This was my first vacation so maybe I was expecting way too much for an all-inclusive resort but that being said I think it was a little disappointing. My second room was two double beds and it was clean and no issues with electrical or mold. I would love to give them five stars but unfortunately, I don’t think that they really did a great job.
