Staff was nice but I could not sleep at all with the jazz music going on until the AM. It felt like the room vibrated. Also I found the room to be dirty and could not stay there any longer, had to check out after the first night. Location was nice but I would not stay there again.

I had a pre-paid reservation for a room through Expedia. When I arrived at the hotel at 1:00 AM, there was no room available for me. The desk clerk simply stated that the hotel would process a refund. Consequently, I was forced to find alternative accommodation late at night.

We couldn’t sleep at all.a part of the in house bar music, the noise of the train cars and police cars sirens all that noice was going to the room through the air conditioning gaps or opening. The property is dated but this adds to its charm. Floors in the rooms are hard flooring and not carpet which is lovely. Rooms are simple and are as shown. Location is excellent. FYI: Property is not accessible (stairs) and rooms are small. Temperature control is challenging (AC didn’t work and windows don’t open). Staff are lovely and very accommodating. If you are looking for basic accommodation in a great part of town with ease of access to subway with many places walkable distance then consider this property.

We had a mixed experience at The Rex Hotel. On the positive side, the staff were absolutely lovely — friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. The hotel also has a unique charm and a quirky character that sets it apart from more generic options in the city. That said, the rooms are definitely in need of a revamp. While the character is there, the decor and facilities feel quite dated and stale. One major downside was that the windows can’t be opened, which made the rooms feel stuffy. The air conditioning unit didn’t help much either — more of a noisy fan than actual cooling. Unfortunately, our stay ended on a frustrating note. The water was shut off to the entire building without any notice, and we were told multiple times that it would be back in 5–10 minutes. After waiting over 40 minutes, we had no choice but to leave and find somewhere else just to use basic bathroom and shower facilities — not ideal when you're traveling. With some upgrades to the rooms and better communication around building issues, The Rex could be a great spot. But as it stands, it’s a bit of a hit-or-miss experience.

The room had everything I needed and the receptionist was very accommodating as I had to check in a bit early. The free toast and coffee breakfast was also good and it was a plus for me to be able to hear some jazz music from the bar. I would recommend this hotel to my friends!
