Tuvalu Holiday Packages

The South Pacific is one of the most popular destinations for those looking to escape the daily grind, perhaps because of its diversity.

There you’ll find cosmopolitan tourist hot spots and secluded atolls that allow only a few guests, like Tuvalu. Discover “tuu mo aganu Tuvalu” (the Tuvaluan way of life) with Tuvalu holiday packages.

Things to Do in Tuvalu

The best thing to do on a holiday in Tuvalu is relax, and this tropical island was made for relaxation. The fun starts as soon as you land at FUN, also known as Funafuti International Airport, in the capital city. Once you see the sparkling Funafuti Lagoon, get ready to hit the beach! The lagoon is 14 km wide and 18 km long, providing seemingly endless numbers of fish, turtles, manta rays and more—better yet, beaches can be found everywhere on the island.

Game fishing is a big reason travellers take Tuvalu holidays. “Tuna” laid-back day into an action-packed one with a chartered fishing trip into the lagoon. Back on land, find a game of te ano, a popular national pastime, and see if you can master the humourous song and dance the losers must perform at the end of each game. Another place to practice your moves is the local maneapa, or meeting house. Put on your fou (a flower garland) and learn the traditional fatele dance—the locals will be happy to show you.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Tuvalu is secluded and peaceful, so shopping malls don’t really fit in here! Shopping is limited, and that’s just how locals and travellers like it. You can check out the Women's Handicraft Centre for local arts and crafts such as shell jewellery, kolose (Tuvaluan crochet) and hand-woven mats and clothing. Vendors will also be selling knick-knacks and souvenirs near most resorts—so you don’t even have to leave the beach.

Aside from crystal waters and powdery sands, the South Pacific’s bounty of fruit and fish is the real centerpiece of holidays to Tuvalu. Strange-sounding foods like breadfruit and swamp taro are typically on the menu, as are plantains, rice and of course, fish. You’ll also go “coco-nuts” for all the varieties of that fruit, which is used in main dishes, desserts and as a stand-alone snack. Try the spinach-like lolo (taro leaves in coconut cream) or steamed fish wrapped in banana leaves.

Good food and good company are serious business in Tuvalu: meals will go late, and dinner often blends into evening entertainment. After dinner, there could be bonfires, singing and dancing, or the adults might head out to a “twist” with live music. However, Tuvalu’s popularity as an amorous getaway means one time-honoured tradition is likely to be seen the most: the romantic walk on the beach.
