A quiet, private suite overlooking a quaint lake

*** May 2025 update: we are doing extensive upgrades to our suite and property in April through June (now almost complete!), including new furniture, memory foam sofa bed, large screen TV with surround, electric fireplace heating, fridge/freezer, induction stove, chairs, coffee station, new BBQ etc. ***

23 minutes from Victoria, 23 minutes from Sooke, Blue Sky Retreat is a quiet respite and rest for anyone wanting to get the best out of their stay at the southern end of Vancouver Island.

We have a suite available with a private living room, bedroom and private balcony with swing, gravity chairs, BBQ and your own private entrance, a kitchenette and private bathroom with shower. An additional guest can easily be accommodated on the memory foam full size sofa bed in the living room. We provide additional bedding (pillows, duvets, blankets) as required.

The kitchenette includes our own freshly roasted and ground coffee, assorted midnight snacks, teas, milk and bottled water. A countertop convection oven/toaster and microwave are also included. (The new kitchen in May 2025 will include dishwasher, induction stove, fridge/frezer, and OTR microwave.)

The front yard has a secluded glade surrounded by Arbutus and pine trees. Guests are welcome to use the facilities and relax around the fire pit in the warmer months. Please note that Spring cleanup of the garden occurs in April of each year.

The location is conveniently close to amenities, Lookout Lake Park, Olympic View Golf course, hiking, Galloping Goose Trail, about 8 minutes from the ocean with many off-leash beaches. Ask us about dog parks, beaches, hiking trails, and local sights to see.

We have two large dogs, a playful 6 year old Bernese mountain dog that loves everyone but gets momentarily very excited to meet new guests, and our new addition, a Berner pup that is still adjusting and is happily chewing up everything she can find.

We always bring them out to greet you upon first arrival so that they get to meet and know you.

If you are not comfortable being around dogs our location is probably not suitable. The suite downstairs has its own door closing it off from the rest of the house so no cats or dogs can stray in. We'd prefer that any guest dogs also not stray outside the suite or outside area.

Blue Sky -Sunny Suite

A spacious comfortable suite with all required amenities with wonderful deck & garden views of the area. Host was wonderful, kind & helpful & his friendly happy dogs welcomed my old dog too. Central location for Colwood, Langford & Metchosin & easy access to Victoria.

Cozy stay with great views

Doug was super responsive to all my messages and made me feel welcome. Sophie and Teesha were very glad to greet me. The inside of the space looks exactly as advertised, but the views are absolutely spectacular. I arrived to see the sun setting over the bay and the mountains. Everything was super comfy. I would definitely stay again.

Not So Quiet

We booked 12/18-23, really needing a tranquil getaway - this wasn’t it Doug was very welcoming & sent directions on getting there & parking. Typically, we’d leave after b'fst & sightsee until after dinner. The noise from upstairs was very noticeable, more insulation desperately needed between their living space and ours. An area rug beneath their dining room table would also help towards less noise. The apt. had dust on tabletops/bookshelf, many wet cigarette butts on the deck, & the bathroom corner had 2” of black grime & the shower had hairs. But the location was great, & we were only there for a few waking hr’s daily. However, on the 3rd day, we woke to a vacuum cleaner upstairs. We left by 10am & didn’t get back until after 7pm - to no parking spots - they were having a party. Upon request, Doug cleared out a parking spot for us. We walked downstairs to our apt.& it sounded like the party was in OUR apt. It sounded like ppl. were playing musical chairs upstairs. On the 3rd call upstairs (prev. replies from Doug were that they'd quiet down - but never happened), Rick answered & said, "I'm sick of you calling us!" We decided to check out the next morn, regardless of a refund. I knocked on their door at 10:20am to advise Doug - he reimbursed us for 2 nt’s, but the trip still cost 200 more than planned. POSITIVES: great view of mtns/lake, artistically deco'd, universal chargers at both nightstands, plenty of closet space, friendly (big) dogs, great convenient location.

I stayed at Doug and Rick’s property for 2 weeks for my program residency. If you are studying at Royal Roads this is a great option as it’s quite close. Nice space inside to do homework. Lovely view, quiet, beautiful walking trails nearby, loved the dogs ❤️ thank you

Absolutely beautiful, very peaceful!

I had an amazing stay. The host was very friendly and gave a tour on check in. A great walk down and up the stairs to Lookout Lake was great. The weather was mostly cloudy and windy but if you're a storm person, it was great. I could have sat outside watching the clouds go by my entire stay.

A hidden gem 💎

We were greeted at the gate by Doug who introduced us to his partner Rick and their beautiful giant of a dog Sadie whom was as happy to see us as we were to see her. Doug showed us the property and our accommodations. We were then left alone unless we needed something then they very accommodating. It was a quiet piece full retreat that was much needed. Totally private with an amazing view of a small lake and we even saw some wild life. A deer grazing on the mountain side just below our balcony. Although this seemed out in the wilderness it was actually very close to everything anyone could want. Restaurants, shopping, trails just everything ❤️
