The room and hotel were beautiful and well-appointed. The staff were rude! When we pulled up the valet was less than friendly - also they are their solely to park cars. they DO NOT help with bags. Then, Marshall, the person who checked us in, was so rude and unwelcoming. I don't think he smiled once. We were scolded in the bar area for bringing in outside food/beverages. Which when he explained - we got it, but... we had done the same thing the night prior and he was the bartender then too. So - an explanation would have been fine - no need to to scold us and treat us like we were idiots. The valet continued to be rude. We were scolded for not pulling ahead far enough when we dropped the car off. We explained that there was a car ahead of us when we pulled in. He told us we could go back out and move it ahead. The only people that smiled and were kind were the morning breakfast staff.

Only one very young employee that greeted us at the front desk when we arrived late in the evening was disappointing. After that, it was like the old days. Lots of pride and professionalism that I just don’t see very often nowadays, no matter how much I pay. I believe the general manager spoke to me one morning and inquired not only about my breakfast, but about my overall experience. I know that this is the Midwest and these people are famous for their manners, but I’ve stayed down the road before and it wasn’t like this. The breakfast is as advertised. If you stay in Madison, I doubt very much that you would be disappointed staying here. I know I will be back the next time I am in town. I rarely give such high praise, but this place deserves it.
