The check in and everything leading up to our first night was great. Friendly front desk, gave us our room key and off we went. We didn't make any special requests, just took the key we were given.
That night at 11pm we received phone calls with no answer, which was weird. Then almost at midnight a man and woman came to our room and knocked on the door and said we were not supposed to be in this room. They didn't identify themselves as manager or security. The woman heard my child cough while my husband was going through details and said we could sort it in the morning but we were obviously shaken up and scared that first night. Also angry they woke my 2 year old and 5 year old in the process. I went to the front desk in the morning and asked to speak with the manager on duty who came out with the biggest attitude and told me it happened because we had asked to switch rooms and were in someone else's room. That didn't happen and I don't know a world where it's ok to wake up guests in the middle of the night because of a mistake on the hotels end. He offered me complimentary breakfast and another serve of attitude. It was a shocking and disappointing situation with zero apology and only defensiveness from the hotel. If you want a good location, book it. But I wouldn't recommend this to any family with young children.

I stayed in SF as a stopover from NZ to Europe. Good option. Staff were helpful and allowed me a late checkout for a small fee so I could freshen up before my next long flight. Walk to Fishemans Wharf etc a bit further than I thought but doable. Quite a steep walk back up though.
Easy Uber to shopping etc if preferred.
