Accommodation In Sapporo

Sapporo is a lively and cosmopolitan Japanese city, and also one of its largest! Founded in 1857, Sapporo is also relatively modern, at least by Japanese standards. The capital city of the Hokkaidō Prefecture is known for its chocolate, beer and awesome ski slopes. Not a bad combo for your Sapporo holiday! If you’re planning to see Sapporo’s famed snow festival in early February, just make sure you book your Sapporo hotel early!

Things to do in Sapporo

In the summer, spend some time admiring Sapporo’s gorgeous parks. One of its most famous is Ōdōri Park, which stretches for 15 blocks through the centre of town. The 100th-anniversary Memorial Park and Asahiyama Parks also offer fresh air and pretty sights during summer. Next up, snap the obligatory selfie at the Clock Tower, the oldest building in the town.

The parks won’t be so pleasant in the winter, but that’s okay, because the ski slopes are calling! There’s a reason that Sapporo hosted the first-ever Winter Olympics in 1972. After a long day of shredding it at Mt. Teine, reward yourself with two of Sapporo’s greatest creations: a mug of Sapporo Beer and a warm bowl of miso ramen.

Finally, stop by in early February when Sapporo hosts the hugely popular Sapporo Snow Festival, where the very best ice sculptors in the world put their skills to the test.

Getting to & Around Sapporo

If you’re coming straight to Sapporo, fly in through New Chitose Airport (CTS) and then grab a taxi to your Sapporo accommodation. If you’re already in Japan, you can hop aboard the Japanese Railway and take a scenic trip to Sapporo. Once there, the city’s grid-like street pattern makes it easier than most Japanese cities to drive by car.

High priced Sapporo hotels don’t have to put a freeze on your plans to see the Sapporo Snow Festival. Just use Wotif to compare prices and snag great savings. If Sapporo is just one stop on your Japan tour, find deals all over the country, including accommodation in Tokyo Japan’s fascinating capital city.
