Upon arrival I was ‘investigated’ by the owner at reception, treated like a criminal, and rudely spoken to, while also being told that talking to much in reply to her questions made me look suspicious. ‘We get a lot of un-savouries here’ were her exact words. The place was clean but a dump, 100% would have been more comfortable sleeping on the floor, and there was no proper lock on the door main door, only a chain, the old asylum feeding holes next to the un-lockable door meant the little security you had was still at risk. The place may have been less concentration camp-esq if the owner had any true sense of respect and customer service.
The next morning the people seemed seemed to have made a complete 180 in terms of attitude and outlook. But I will for the rest of my life avoid this place like the plague, and use it as a reminder to alwasy take the time to research before choosing accomodation! Marco Polo just across the way, was exactly the opposite and I would stay there every time I am in Mackay.
