You’re probably going to take home something new from Makati’s many malls, so why not start your holiday with something old? The Guadalupe Ruins, located south of Pasig River, dates back to 17th-century Spanish influences. For a tour of Makati’s past and present, visit the collections at Ayala Museum, featuring indigenous Filipino arts and artefacts. Stop for a picnic in the park at nearby Ayala Triangle before browsing the galleries at Yuchengco Museum—just look for the silver, cone-shaped building on the northwest side of town. Once you’ve taken in some new cultural sights, you may finally shop. If designer boutiques are your thing, zip through Alaya Center. International brands can also be found at Glorietta, Greenbelt and Power Plant Mall. But if you want to sample the fashions and flavours of the Philippines, rest up in one of the cosy Makati hotels and go to the Salcedo Weekend Market early in the morning.
