Didn’t like not being able to see out our window as the board design on the outside blocks a lot of light. Had a noisey fan heater as the air conditioning system wasn’t working. They did give us a free breakfast as we complained about the cold room.

Very pleasant check in staff, very clean room and comfy bed. Receptionist booked my Mum a shuttle from the airport, I really appreciated that. Light switches in room a bit confusing.

Full of promise and a couple of days in New Plymouth, we stayed at the Novotel in New Plymouth. The studio unit cost me $159 for the night on a deal. For that we got a room facing away from the sea views (as expected), but the window had large wooden boards to help provide privacy for neighbouring houses, so we had no view (see photo). Added to this we had the air conditioning units on the roof above thumping away all night, despite turning ours off. It was loud and It didn't go away. It was like trying to sleep next to a large diesel engine under load. Tried to dine at the restaurant, but the water never came to take out order after 20 minutes, so left and found a wonderful place nearby.
