The Coastal Motor Lodge is situated 15 kilometres from the middle of Tapu. Or, alternatively, the Avalon Motel Thames is 18 kilometres away. Two other options include the Tuscany on Thames and the Nightingale Falls Farmstay Retreat.

After you have enjoyed Tapu, you should make time to discover the wider region of the North Island area. North Island boasts beaches and coastal plains, along with commonly visited North Island tourist sights like the art museums, nature museums and history museums. Visitors in this region of New Zealand can also enjoy snowboarding, skiing and tobogganing.

Thames is 17 kilometres to the south of Tapu and is home to the Goldfields Shopping Centre, Thames Historical Museum and Butterfly and Orchid Garden. The Rolleston Motel and Cotswold Cottage are just some of the apartment and hotel options in Thames. Alternatively, you could stay in Whitianga, 25 kilometres to the northeast of Tapu, where you can pick from the Sovereign Pier on the Waterways and Aotearoa Lodge. While in Whitianga, be sure to visit the Cathedral Cove Beach, Cooks Beach and Buffalo Beach.

If you enjoy sports and want to see games, you might decide to make a trip to Eden Park, which is 70 kilometres to the west of Tapu. The Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour and the Quest on Beaumont are both good options if you hope to get amongst it.
