Booked this last minute to attend a job interview the next day as it allowed for late check in on a Sunday night as using public transport. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Great local area knowledge. Very clean room-people above me the first night were noisy but I could sleep. Amazing bathroom-loved the shower. So close to the centre of York so I could come back post interview and explore very easily into the city to see the Minstry and visit the Shambles. Would come back again

Nice room, go elsewhere for breakfast

The room was fine, nothing at all wrong with it. Breakfast service was woeful. Breakfast is self serve buffet but you ask for certain items like poached eggs or well done (crispy) bacon. Sat down, got a few bits ourself and asked for poached eggs for the wife and I. She also wanted crispy bacon as the stuff in self serve was limp and greasy. 20 minutes later, the server walked past our table with what looked to be our eggs and bacon, giving it to a couple who just sat down - it was gratefully received by them. I pointed out the mistake, and was told there was no mistake, ours would be a few minutes. 10 minutes later we enquired again, to be told "a few minutes". 45 mins after the original ask, my wife got her eggs, and I asked when mine would come, and the wife's crispy bacon, I was told "a few minutes". 5 mins later my eggs came, but no bacon for the wife. We asked again and 10 mins later, some limp bacon that looked less well cooked than the bacon you collect yourself arrived. We politely said the bacon wasn't crispy and she went away again. We complained to the manager (along with 3 other couples who'd had similar experiences), and got promised remedial bacon. The replacement arrived 1 hours and 20 minutes, again it was limp and undercooked. We got up and left at that point after pointing out again that the bacon was barely cooked. Also no beans at buffet for 25mins we were there, We don't complain unless service is woeful - the breakfast area wasn't even busy.

It’s OK

No one cleaned the room or replaced towels. We had to call for the. To pick up the trash and provide towels. Very loud construction that shakes the walls. Messed them about it and never heard anything from them.

Short break in York

We walked from the train station, as we had minimal luggage and it took only twenty minutes to arrive at the hotel. Check in was easy. Staff were very helpful and friendly, especially in the dining area. Daily breakfast was plentiful and tasty.The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The location of the hotel was close to all of the many attractions that York has to offer. The area was fairly quiet in the evening, even though a Wetherspoons pub was opposite. Would definitely visit again!

The staff were lovely and very helpful, convenient location for the city's many attractions. The bed in the double room was a touch on the small side and my wife and I are quite small physically. I didn't like having to provide a £30 security deposit when I arrived, especially as I had prepaid for the room and breakfast. I have never been asked for a security deposit at any other hotel I have stayed at.

The hotel was comfortable and the breakfast was of good quality. Staff were overall friendly and efficient but the staff member was going to charge me for two breakfasts. I had to point out to him that I only had one breakfast.

Great rooms

Rooms were excellent. Had all the amenities necessary for a short stay and is well located for the centre of York's attractions. Only negative was the smell of breakfast being cooked, especially as our room was on the top (5th) floor.

Disappointing stay

Quick and helpful staff greeted us on arrival. Got to our room and we noticed that there was a strong BO like smell the bathroom. On investigation we could see that the bottom of the shower curtain was mouldy. We informed the staff on the desk and they told us that they would sent up someone from house keeping. Nobody came to our room. We ended up taking the shower curtain down and leaving in the corridor outside our room. The smell reduced slightly but still persisted so we thought that the smell was coming from the drains…… Oh, and the bed was not suitable for two average size adults unless you like playing sardines
